Today I am starting a public beta of our ZM server replacement.

While ZoneMatch is current running, it would be nice if some of you would spend some time to help get any issues worked out before it goes down again, and we have a traffic jam if there are any problems.

SO, that being the case, beta testers have already vierified that it works, now I would like to test it with a heavier load.

To connect to the test zone server as opposed to the MS one, all you nee to do is a simple registry setting change.

For the record, the value in the registry is

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftMicrosoft GamesMechWarrior Mercenaries]
"ZoneServer"="mwmatch.zone.com"

this gets changed to

[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftMicrosoft GamesMechWarrior Mercenaries]
"ZoneServer"="mekmatch.mektek.net"

I made it simpler for you by includiing a pair of .reg files in this .zip archive:

http://www.mektek.net/mekmatch/mekmatch.zip

Save this file to your desktop, and unzip the files to your desktop.

There are two files 1) zonematch.reg and 2) mekmatch.reg

The first one patches you to use the Micorsoft zonematch, the second one patches you to use the mekmatch server. Double click on either one to change the server you are going to connect to.

If you are running a dedicated server, you will also have to patch it appropriately.

There already is one server connected to it (Area 51) and will remain so.

Also, this is a beta test, but, the Player List feature is disabled at the moment,
so, if you ask to get a list of the players on a particular server, none will show up. This will be enabled once I work out a few more things.

Feel free to register your server with this, so we can all verify that the system runs smoothly. I will keep this up over the next few days, so if ZM does drop (whcih it likely will), feel free to use this one.

Eventually, this will be moved to a more permanent address.
